Spencer is...

With a population of 2,279, Spencer is the heart of Roane County. A complete history is available here.   Located centrally in West Virginia, it is just 1 hour from Charleston and Parkersburg and about 2 hours from Huntington.  First settled in 1812 by Samuel Tanner, Spencer is home to many historic attractions, some of which are included in the National Registry of Historical Places.  If you are looking for recreation, Charles Fork Lake, the site of the annual Tour de Lake bike race, features boating, fishing, walking, and bike trails.  Spencer is also the home of the annual WV Black Walnut Festival™, which provides various activities during one week in October.

This year the festival is 9-12 October, 2008.

We hope this website will give you a taste of what Spencer is like.  Thanks for visiting!
